As discussed in the April 17, 2015 article in The New York Times, the Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit is currently entertaining arguments from attorneys arguing for and against the legality of part of President Obama’s immigration policies, view which he laid out in November 2015. The new programs would expand the DACA program and also allow parents of U.S. citizen children to apply for temporary legal status. The programs were put on hold shortly before they officially took effect when a federal Judge in Texas decided that President Obama was acting beyond his legal authority.
